ARTIST PROFILE
Jan is an amateur photographer. She took her first black and white photography class in the fall of 2002 and has been with it ever since. She credits David Kerr, her instructor at Skyline College, for her deep love of black and white photography and for encouraging her to try new things.
Switching from 35mm to medium format in the fall of
2005, Jan's aim is to photograph her subject with greater detail while establishing a mood. She favors
landscapes, both rural and urban, and architecture, particularly old buildings. She enjoys traveling and attempts to capture the essence of a location in her pictures.
Many of Jan's photographs project a feeling of peacefulness. She once joked that her genre is "places
I'd rather be." Being a school counselor and a therapist
for over thirty years, she searches for beauty and tranquility through her photography.
